In conjunction with the First Friday Art Stroll in downtown Ogden, Universe City will feature a number of artists offering art priced under $100 with opening night Friday, September 2nd. The exhibit will run through September 17th: Fridays, 5:00-8:00; Saturdays, from noon-8:00 pm. Private appointments to view the exhibit individually or as a group tour can be made by calling 458-8959.

Artists to be featured include Leia Bell, Virgil Gabaldon, Shaunna Goldberry, Steve Henry, Brock Porter, Gabriel Stockton, Heather Heath-Stremme and Tom Szalay, among others. All of the artists have been asked to provide inexpensive examples of their work to match the theme of the exhibit. For the most part, one can expect art on the light-hearted side!

About the artists:

Leia Bell received a BFA from the University of Utah in 2001. She is the resident artist of Kilby Court, famous in northern Utah and around the West as an all ages venue for up and coming rock bands. She routinely designs and produces collectable posters for these bands and other clients. She has been featured on National Public Radio, Newsweek and other publications as well as in the book “Art of Modern Rock,” because of her work in the revival of poster art. (more at Leiabell.com)

Virgil Gabaldon is the artist in residence at 2612, a skate shop in Ogden. In addition to producing traditional art (untraditionally) he also paints original works on skateboard blanks. They sell as fast as he paints them.

Shaunna Goldberry, photographer, produces works to be framed as well as notecards. Her work includes regional landscapes as well as haunting and moody shots from her travels through the British Isles.

Steve Henry teaches art at Christian Heritage School. He was the featured artist at ArtStop during August. His work will include prints and paintings.

Brock Porter received a BFA from Weber State University in 1998. He currently works as a graphic designer for Ogden Weber Applied Technology College. He received the Mayor’s Art Award for Design in 2003. He will be exhibiting photographs and ceramics.

Gabriel Stockton is and artist and children’s book designer. He will be exhibiting a humorous series of “found art” paintings, juxtaposing trite Parisian street scenes with bizarre stenciled designs.

Heather Heath-Stremme has an MFA in art from the University of Nevada in Reno. She was the featured artist in July at Universe City. She will exhibit prints and soft scultures.

Tom Szalay completed a BFA (1979) in photography with a minor in Art History at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. He worked for many years as a photojournalist. He has been teaching photography and filmmaking at West High School in Salt Lake City for more than 10 years. He is also an adjunct photography instructor at Weber State. He was the featured artist in August at Universe City
