Weekly Local Music News
By Jennifer Molder
This is going to be the first of many weekly news
articles I will be writing. There will be no definite structure for
this column. The three aspects of Ogden I will be focusing on are local
musicians, local music venues, and events. If you have any important
information about the music scene in Ogden please email me or Street
Magazine. I will be happy to hear what you think of local music and the
music
related information and articles in Street Magazine. Contact me
at streetmag_gal@msn.com.
For all local musicians, please contact Street Magazine with
performance dates so we can list them on our online live music
calendar. Also get a band logo to Street Magazine and we will put a
link to your bands website on our local band web page.

This last week was packed with bands
performing
everywhere. On Thursday April 7 Los Angeles based all girl band Raining
Jane filled Café MoJo’s to the brim. Raining Jane is a
four piece group of talented musicians who have been on tour now for
about three months out of their four month tour. Everyone in the group
sings and plays more than one instrument, and they seemed to switch up
instruments between most songs. They had plenty of personality to spare
and had people laughing between songs. I spoke with their drummer Mona
after the show and she said that they loved playing at MoJo’s and
were surprised at the size of the crowd and the atmosphere of the club.
I hope they are able to play here again.
On Friday April 8 I was at the Battle of the Bands at Union Station.
This event was a fund raiser for Utah Special Olympics. I heard about
his event from Weber State University Radio KWCR. Definitely check out
88.1 local landing show on Wednesday nights from 9 – 12. This is
a good way of keeping up with local music. All of the bands in this
battle sounded awesome, and I heard every kind of music from classic
rock to ska to punk. A few of the bands that really impressed me were
The Monikers, Spearit, and Gundhi. SKINT was energetic and stirred the
crowd up as always. It was a great time and I enjoyed seeing a lot of
kids and teenagers supporting the bands. The winner of this competition
was Catalyst, who played last and rocked the crowd. Several of these
bands play regularly at Café MoJo’s.
Saturday April 9 Café MoJo’s was busting at the seams
again with Gundhi, Melissa Yearsly and Spearit. Later that night over
at Brewski’s A.J. played a spectacular show followed by Gundhi.
This was a really busy weekend for Gundhi. That’s it for this
week, hopefully next week I will have information about future events
rather than past ones.
